Organization Description

Storytellers of Canada - Conteurs du Canada
Headquartered in Toronto, Storytellers of Canada - Conteurs du Canada (SC-CC) is a National Arts Service Organization, with the mandate of being ‘devoted to connecting people, reflecting culture and inspiring discovery through the art of storytelling’. SC-CC supports the art of oral storytelling through our work to raise the profile of storytelling throughout Canada by offering quality, accessible professional training to members; promoting the growth of the art form amongst new generation artists; creating performance opportunities and audio products; and developing a diversified, collaborative membership.

The organization has 265 individual members and 25 organizational members across Canada, as well as internationally. The membership is a mix of professional and non-professional storytellers.

SC-CC holds an annual conference that focuses on networking, performances, professional development, audience outreach and membership consultation. The organization supports programming and professional development through various annual micro-grants, and recognizes accomplished storytellers through award programs. SC-CC programming also includes a growing 24-hour online storytelling radio station with a broad, international audience, and a storytelling album recording program with a new podcast element that we plan to expand into more regular programming.

Job Description

Project description
SC-CC has initiated a Request for Proposal (RFP) process to find a vendor qualified to plan, execute and deliver the redesign of SC-CC’s website, and to provide maintenance training to staff, as well as periodic support as needed.

SC-CC requires a vendor who has demonstrated experience in consultation, design and construction of website projects and expertise with best practices regarding successful responsive website design, e-commerce, event registration, a secure section for members, as well as compliance with accessibility standards and laws. The website should be created in an open-source language and format.
The vendor will be responsible for design work, and asset deliverables. Content will be populated by SC-CC staff.

Project Background
The current version of the SC-CC website was launched at the start of 2015. It was designed to update the original website and give account access and management to members; to handle conference registration and registration data collection; as well as to improve visual appeal and house a range of resources. SC-CC has since identified a need to simplify and reorganize the site, improve usability, add collaboration tools and to increase or expand the flexibility of event registration tools.

Target Audiences
The website is visited by francophone and anglophone members and non-members, event-seekers, and storytelling fans across Canada and around the world. It must be appealing, accessible and easily searchable for a general audience interested in storytelling, storytelling events, or hiring storytellers. It must also provide easy information for potential members or those looking for professional development opportunities. Finally, it must cater to our membership who have varying levels of technical ability, but who use the site to manage their own membership profile and account information.
