Job Description

The Marketing and Communications Assistant will assist in making the work we do at Scarborough Arts and our brand more visible and present in the Scarborough Community, the GTA and beyond. We are seeking a true go-getter, someone who takes initiative and actively wants to expand their marketing and communications portfolio and gain tangible, hands-on experience with an organization focused on providing innovative and high-impact community arts programming. You will assist in increasing the presence of Scarborough Arts' brand and its programs across an array of media platforms with an aim to increase brand recognition and audience / Participation for Scarborough Arts' programs and events.

● Intermediate to Advanced competencies graphic design skills considered an asset 

● Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Canva and / or  graphic design software  

Proficiency in Square Space web development software

Intermediate to Advanced skills in: MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.),  Dropbox, G Suite (Gmail; Google Drive; Docs, Sheets, Teams: Google Drive, Google  Calendar and Docs)  

Understanding of Google Analytics, Mailchimp, and database management (CiviCRM)

● Strong ability to adapt flexibly to and learn new software programs. Training, where  possible, will be provided. 

Knowledge and skills in relevant contemporary software e.g., Square Space, and other  software as assigned.  

Deep understanding of and comfort in using social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter,  Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.). 

Experience using social media and social media management platforms (e.g., Hootsuite) in  a business or organizational environment considered an asset 

Collect analytics from social media platforms and report to the team with insight on how to  creatively, address our public/ reach our target audience 

Adept at data management with experience and/or knowledge of government regulations  related to marketing and communications (e.g., CASL, MFIPPA, etc.)  

Time-management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills with strong attention to detail

● Strong and effective verbal and writing communication skills and copy-editing skills 

Excellent customer service skills to interact with stakeholders and community members

● A creative thinker who is able to collaborate with other departments and staff members

● Fluency in English (spoken and written); Multilingualism considered an asset 

Knowledge of equity principles 

Knowledge of Scarborough’s neighborhoods, demographics, communities, and arts and  cultural landscape considered a strong asset 

Experience in event documentation (e.g., photography and video) 

Able to adhere to confidentiality policies and the handling of sensitive information

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program through the Government  of Canada (Federal). To be eligible, candidates must: 

Be 15 to 30 years of age at the time of employment 

Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has  been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of  the employment 

Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled  to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and  regulations
