Yonge-Dundas Square is a City owned public space located in the heart of downtown Toronto. The Square is operated on behalf of the City by a Board of Management appointed by Toronto City Council. The Square produces free annual programming consisting of concerts and outdoor film screenings. Every year YDS also hosts a wide variety of community and corporate events in addition to major City celebrations and festivals.

Job Description

Primary Function
  • Maintain and execute marketing and communications plans and strategies
  • Design and create content for YDS internal and external marketing campaigns and platforms
  • Manages and maintain YDS digital signage calendar
Major Responsibilities:
  • Execute marketing programs and strategies across traditional channels (print, signage, PR and Media relations) and digital (social media ads, email marketing, programmatic ads, website pixel)
  • Prepare and present materials/findings regarding internal programming branding and lead freelance design team to develop marketing materials
  • Develop client focused messaging in B2B and B2C initiatives
  • Manage SEO to enhance and maintain website position in organic search and generation of inbound traffic
  • Optimize, run tests, increase traffic and engagement
  • Regularly evaluate analytics from marketing initiatives to improve communications
  • Monitor and engage in relevant social discussions about YDS
  • Track, measure, and analyze all social media initiatives
  • Facilitates the delivery of YDS social media for Event Clients, including liaising with Event Coordinators to ensure objectives are met.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, digital landscape and new media tactics
Graphic Design
  • Format creative files using Adobe Creative Suite products
  • Create and/or facilitate the design and/or printing of all YDS marketing materials and media buys, including YDS on-site signage, print and digital materials
  • Develop sharable content appropriate for each social network to spread YDS messaging and support communications strategy
  • Create/design web branding materials, including logos, posters, display, etc.
  • Design & create ad content for YDS marketing campaigns
  • Design & create branding content including infographics, videos, and static content for OOH digital signage
  • Oversee YDS digital signage content scheduling using Alto
  • Work with OUTFRONT Media and events team in scheduling digital content on behalf of event clients
  • Works to ensure that YDS communications objectives are met
  • Manage internal and external communications strategies including photography and video, etc. to re-enforce brand identity.
  • Develop communications materials for both internal and external stakeholders including YDS Board of Management, YDS Staff, YDS event clients, etc.
  • Ensures the successful provision of YDS’ contracted sponsor digital and static signage benefits.
  • Mange consistent brand and visual identity and language across multiple mediums, including print, web, and signage
Operations and Administration
  • Manage and maintain YDS website (domain and hosting)
  • Manage and maintain YDS digital signage calendar
  • Compile meeting notes at all YDS staff meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Degree or diploma in Marketing, Communications or Media (or a related field), or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Experience in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), Adobe Creative Suite, Affinity Design, and social networking sites required.
  • Experience in website management, specifically using Squarespace
  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills, interpersonal relationship management, conflict resolution and problem solving ability
  • Ability to communicate effectively with contracted services staff on the phone and in person, throughout planning and on site
  • Excellent and proven organizational skills including the ability to prioritize, react quickly to changing circumstances and make good analytical decisions based on information available, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment
  • Ability to follow complex instructions through to completion, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to keep company information confidential.
  • Must work in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Flexibility to work days, early mornings, late nights and weekends, as required
  • Ability to perform moderate lifting (up to 40lbs)
