Job Description

Assisting the Senior Accountant (and working closely with the Director of Development & Operations) with the financial operations of Business / Arts. 



Key Responsibilities

Assisting the Senior Accountant (and working closely with the Director of Development & Operations) with the financial operations of Business / Arts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to.
Responsible for day to day accounting of the organization
  • Process accounts payable transactions including verification of information, G/L coding, data entry and processing scheduled system cheque runs
  • Assist with accounts receivable including invoice clients and collection of outstanding invoices on past due accounts
  • Assist with developing and enhancing accounting policies, procedures and practices, as well as provide valuable inputs into the building of a robust and integrated accounting system
  • Prepare general ledger journal entries and account reconciliation for period-end timelines in the accounting system
  • Prepare employees payroll, T4s, T4As for contractors, and Record of Employment
  • Respond quickly and accurately to time-sensitive banking requests such as bank deposits, wire transfers, and certified cheques from upper management
  • Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and prepare various financial reports including transactional analysis
  • Ensure all associated expenses are accurate before processing the reimbursements
  • Prepare and file HST returns/Source deduction and complete tax remittance forms
  • Prepare year-end charity return and rebate application and submit to Canada Revenue Agency
  • Processing and monitoring artsvest Confirmation Forms and Cheques, in collaboration with the rest of the artsvest team
  • Assist with organizational and program audit(s)
  • Assist with budgeting, cash flows and prepare various cost reports for different programs
  • Manage investment accounts and reconcile on a monthly basis to reflect the market value
  • Manage capital assets and prepaid and deferral schedules for year-end reconciliations
  • Prepare working papers and pro forma financial statements for year-end
  • Attending finance and audit committee meetings
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Degree in business, finance, accounting or equivalent
  • 2+ years accounting and bookkeeping experience 
  • Knowledge of and experience in charitable and/or non-profit sector is an asset
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • High energy, team-oriented and personable
  • Knowledge of and experience managing QuickBooks
