Job Description

Cahoots Theatre is seeking a committed, visionary General Manager to join our dynamic team and help lead the company. Cahoots is a non-profit charitable organization whose mandate is to develop and produce theatre that refocuses the spotlight on artists from the edge. We are seeking a qualified individual with an interest in arts management and a drive towards cultural equity who has a solid track record of successful arts administration in a small to mid-sized company. Reporting to the Board of Directors alongside the Artistic Director, the General Manager’s responsibilities include (see application information package for full description):

Administration/Operations

  • General management and oversight of day-to-day operations;
  • Create, implement and manage Cahoots’ annual operating plans and budgets;
  • Hire and manage all staff required to execute artistic and business plans, and provide training and mentorship for all staff members;
  • Management of all human resources, documentation, contracts, records, including required filings and reporting (eg. payroll deductions, ROE’s, T4/T4A’s, etc.);
  • Develop policies and procedures as necessary for administrative areas, such as finance, communications and marketing;
  • Manage all studio and equipment rentals, and rental policies and procedures of a rehearsal studio;
Producing/Communications
  • Manage the production process, from budget creation to realization;
  • With the Artistic Director, identify and create strategic producing partnerships;
  • Hire and manage all production personnel;
  • With the Artistic Director, develop, manage and implement Cahoots’ communications plans, including our quarterly newsletter, e-blasts, and all marketing and publicity related to production activity;
Fundraising
  • Develop, manage and oversee the implementation of all fundraising activities, including annual operating grant applications, other public sector funding, private sector funding and fundraising related to annual fundraising plans and 3-year strategic plan;
  • Create, coordinate and execute special donor events and large-scale gala fundraisers in partnership with the fundraising committee; donor engagement and stewardship.


Requirements:

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience as a producer / senior manager in a not-for-profit arts organization or arts/theatre sector;
  • A successful track record in strong fiscal management, fundraising and marketing;
  • Familiarity with computer software programs including, or comparable to, Microsoft Suite, Sage Accounting, Sumac, WordPress and Mailchimp;
  • Proven leadership capabilities; excellent problem solving skills; excellent planning, organizational and time-management skills; excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience with, or if not, belief in and willingness to learn anti-oppressive/anti-racist practices.
