Job Description

Description:

Mississauga/Oakville fine art gallery is seeking a full-time Gallery Director who is highly motivated to sell original works of art as well as seek new sales opportunities. The ideal candidate must have a proven sales record and 3-5 years managerial experience. Experience working one-on-one with visual artists and speaking/writing about art are important. Marketing and/or Design experience are an asset.

*This position requires a G class driver's license.



Requirements:

The ideal candidate will:

• be capable of providing exceptional customer service to luxury market clientele in a professional manner
• be confident in approaching customers and closing sales
• have a passion and a deep commitment for the visual arts
• have several years of proven high-end retail sales experience
• have experience with small business administration
• be willing to work extended hours if required
• be comfortable creating relationships with artists and inviting new artists to exhibit at the gallery

Necessary qualifications include:

• excellent computer skills including experience with Mac OS, Filemaker Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, Constant Contact and Basecamp.
• proven managerial experience
• strong written and verbal communication skills
• high attention to detail and accuracy
• the ability to organize and plan large scale gallery events
• ability to create and sustain connections with local and international clientele
• experience speaking and writing about artforms and mediums
• experience creating effective marketing material
• experience promoting events and pages via social media platforms
• degree in the arts or a related dicipline



Additional Info:

Duties will include:

• performing general administrative tasks
• human resources (staff management and staff morale)
• handling all daily aspects of gallery operations, including managing and exhibiting inventory of original artwork
• greeting clients, establishing rapport, and following up on potential sales
• identifying needs and providing solutions that are consistent with the client's preferences and budget
• in-home consultations across the GTA
• selling to customers online though email correspondence
• dealing directly with suppliers and artists
• selecting new artists and critiquing new artwork
• curating artwork that is up in the gallery so that all rostered artists are represented
• generating new business through email, phone, mail and in person meetings
• organizing weekly email blasts with regards to shows and updates
• designing marketing & advertising materials, creating advertising campaigns and organizing yearly group shows with artists
• wiring, framing and hanging artwork (training provided)
• tracking and logging monthly sales reports

Qualified applicants must be available to work on weekends, have a valid drivers license and their own vehicle as well as be capable of performing tasks that are physically demanding (such as packing and shipping of artwork, hanging heavy framed pieces, standing on a ladder, and setting up for events).

This is an hourly and commission based sales position. Excellent potential for a motivated candidate.
