Elephant in the Attic is a dynamic art and experience shop located in the heart of DuWest, Toronto. We inspire our customers by creating art experiences through a mutual curatorial process and specialize in custom framing, conceptual gallery walls, interior design, and creating immersive environments out of vintage and antique objects.

Job Description

We are currently seeking an arts-conscious, passionate person to serve as a core member of our team. This person will learn all aspects of our business and work as a lead framer, as well as a designer and curatorial assistant. The position will start with part-time hours (on a contract basis) during training, but can become more full time after that period. 

The Framer, Designer & Curatorial Assistant will: 

⦁ Holistically design creative custom framing jobs with clients.
⦁ Refinish, restore and assemble antique and vintage frames with precision and care.
⦁ Help us welcome customers and clients to the shop, by letting them know about our unique curatorial services. 
⦁ Interact with clients for quotes, design approval and pick-ups.
⦁ Assist in curating prints for individual homes and commercial settings.
⦁ Merchandize products/objects imaginatively.
⦁ Update and maintain our custom order invoice system.
⦁ Keep the shop inviting, and the production centre clean and functional.

Depending on the candidate's prior experience, their job may also expand to include: 

• Assisting in the development of our online presence and our e-commerce site. 
• Helping to create graphics to promote our special events, programs and art openings. 
• Assisting in the planning and coordinating of community programming initiatives. 
• Taking a lead in the execution of our social media and online marketing initiatives.

Experience working with your hands (preferably in an arts-oriented/design enterprise) is required. Framing experience (mat cutting, frame resoration and assembly) is a major asset. 

A background in design, with some ability on photoshop/illustrator is an asset. Some basic computer skills (word, excel, google drive) are required.
