The Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC) is the collective voice of independent documentary creators across Canada and the premier organization for Canadian documentary advocacy. We analyze policy, conduct insightful research, and speak up at all orders of government to help our distinctly Canadian genre flourish.

Job Description

Dynamic, national arts organization looking for Toronto-based Executive Director to lead advocacy & services for documentary filmmakers.


As head of this national bilingual membership-based organization, you must possess:

•    thorough working knowledge of the Canadian film and media industry, including insight and experience with key players and stakeholders;
•    the ability to advocate effectively for the organization before regulatory and consultative bodies such as the CRTC, CMF, Telefilm Canada, the Department of Canadian Heritage, CAVCO, among others;
•    advanced project management skills delivering results on time, on budget and with high quality;
•    the ability to represent the interests of a national membership-driven organization with six chapters across the country (BC, AB, MB, ON, Que, Atlantic);
•    strong financial management skills (ie. budget forecasting & reporting, project-based planning, overseeing fundraising);
•    strong people management skills as you will be leading a small office team;
•    familiarity with management of a national non-profit corporation, and experience  working with a Board of Directors and committees;
•    a proven ability to plan strategically, rally people together, communicate a vision effectively, and deliver results;
•    excellent communication skills in English (bilingual skills in French/English will be considered a strong asset).

Additional Info:

Some more important details:
•    Location: The Executive Director will sit in the DOC office in downtown Toronto.
•    Travel: Some travel as required to meet with stakeholders and DOC members across Canada. 

What we offer:
•    Salary range: $75 – 90K (commensurate with experience)
•    Benefits: health/dental coverage, 4 weeks vacation and paid days off during Christmas and New Year

Start Date: February 2020 (negotiable)
