Organization Description

Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival

Hot Docs is a not-for-profit organization that aims to advance and celebrate the art of documentary, and create production opportunities for documentary filmmakers.

Held in Toronto each spring, Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival is North America’s largest documentary festival, conference and market. Each year, the Festival presents approximately 200 Canadian and international films to audiences exceeding 220,000. For documentary professionals, we offer a dynamic slate of industry events and initiatives, including Hot Docs Forum, as well as a full roster of professional development opportunities. The 27th annual Festival will take place April 30–May 10, 2020.

Hot Docs also owns the Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema, a 650-seat, century-old screening venue in Toronto, that is a year-round home for Canadian and international documentaries.

Additionally, Hot Docs is the event organizer for the annual World Congress of Science and Factual Producers, a member-run conference for science and factual producers, broadcasters and content providers from around the world.

Job Description

The Docs for Schools Coordinator position will provide administrative support to the ongoing Docs For Schools programs throughout the school year and during the Hot Docs Festival. Reporting to the Education and Youth Programs Manager, the Coordinator will provide administrative support and program co-ordination:
  • Assist with administrative and co-ordination needs with the Docs For Schools programs
  • Outreach and liaise with teachers; register and confirm school group bookings
  • Additions and updates to Docs For Schools database; data gathering and program usage statistics
  • Assist with creation of promotional, educational material and social media updates
  • Assist with on-site logistics for cinema screenings and distribution of Docs For Schools material
  • Occasionally represent Docs For Schools at education events


  • Experience and competence working with all Microsoft Office programs, Google Docs and Vimeo platform
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills are crucial
  • Comfortable problem solving, troubleshooting and taking initiative
  • Self-directed and works well both independently and in collaboration
  • Experience with Salesforce (Customer Relationship Management)
  • Familiarity with school curriculum (Ontario or other provinces)
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Web or graphic design experience (i.e.: Canva)
  • Follows various media to gain knowledge re local, national and international news events
