Job Description

Established by founder Celia Franca in 1951, The National Ballet of Canada presents a full range of traditional full-length classics and has been an innovative commissioner of new contemporary work by some of the most important choreographers and designers in the world. The Education and Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for supporting the planning and delivery of the education and community engagement programmes. The position will contribute to improving the quality, effectiveness, and consistency of community programming in collaboration with internal departments and external organizations including school boards and community groups.

The Coordinator will thrive in a fast-paced work environment and possess effective interpersonal communications skills, and be a passionate team collaborator. This role also requires keen attention to detail and the ability to work on different tasks efficiently.

This is a part-time, eight (8) month contract. The salary is an hourly wage, based on 24-hours (3 days) per week, starting early September, 2022.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • ​​Support the creation and development of the Education and Community Engagement programmes
  • Respond to inquiries regarding educational programming by email and telephone
  • Assist with the planning and facilitation of programming including Share the Magic, Dance About, and YOU dance
  • Support administration for all in theatre programming (Ballet Talks, Class on Stage, Nutcracker Story Time, and Student Matinees)
  • Assist with the planning and facilitation of Relaxed Performances
  • Support with program initiatives including but not limited to day of event set-up and tear-down, registrations, and general administration
  • Communicate with external partners, clients, and consultants
  • Assist with volunteer management including schedules, communications, and day of event support
  • Support planning of future programming
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Community Engagement, Arts Administration or related discipline in the arts
  • 1 - 2 years experience, preferably in education or a communications-based role
  • Experience working in an arts organization or non-profit is an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with community groups and external organizations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in communicating with partners, clients, consultants and volunteers
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong research, decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required

Working Conditions:
  • Occasional work at the theater (Four Seasons for Performing Arts Centre)
  • Some evenings and weekend work where required
