With dedicated gallery space across the street from the Art Gallery of Ontario, featuring live and online art auctions, Consignor provides both buyers and sellers of Canadian Art a unique and effective set of services which marry the traditional methods of promoting artwork and innovative means of building a collection.

Job Description

The Art Specialist will assist the President and Vice President in sourcing consignments, developing the client base and preparing for frequent live and online fine art auctions. This is a full-time maternity leave contract position for a motivated, client-oriented professional with a BA/MA in Art History or a related discipline.

Primary Duties:
Providing art valuations (on-site and off-site), sourcing new client relationships, cataloguing artworks, networking at events, researching, contributing essays to the fine art catalogue, conducting condition reports, assisting with hanging of artwork and preparation of the gallery for public previews.


  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in an auction house, gallery, or arts business
  • Post-secondary degree in Art History or related discipline
  • Knowledge of Canadian art (historical, post-war, contemporary) as well as knowledge of the art market
  • Professional presentation with excellent communication, writing, organizational, time management and customer service skills
  • Ability to assist in moving/displaying artworks
  • Graduate degree (MA/ MBA)
  • Fluency in French and English (asset)
  • Driver's licence (asset)
