Shine Dance Competitions
Shine Dance Competitions continues to present a competition that is not simply a place where dancers compete, but a place where they have fun and build memories of their competitive experience. With its inception in 2002, Shine has since grown to host eight annual competitions and service over 4,000 competitive dancers each season. Shine also focuses on giving back to the community and runs a charity food drive at every competition and is an approved community partner and fundraiser for the Hospital for Sick Children. Shine Dance Competitions takes great pride in running a competition with a commitment to excellence.

Job Description

POSITION #1:
Backstage Manager
  • Primary liaison with studio teachers ensuring they receive A+ customer service
  • Check-in performances as they arrive backstage and confirm cues/props (150-200 performances per day)
  • Manage any prop ‘load-ins’ or set-up with studio teachers
  • Must be able to come up with solutions and communicate effectively when backstage disruptions occur
  • Works well with children and able to crowd control large groups backstage while maintaining a calm environment
  • Ability to speak basic French is an asset
 
 
POSITION #2:
Client Services and Store Manager
  • Previous retail experience is a must
  • Cash handling experience without a computer is an definite asset
  • Previous inventory management is an asset
  • Provide A+ customer service and positive interactions with children, parents, and dance directors/teachers
  • Help mitigate any issues that may arise with clients and find appropriate solutions
  • Answer all client questions to help contribute to their positive experience.


Requirements:

  • People with passion, attention to detail, and a drive beyond the job they need to do.
  • Previous experience with dance is an asset.
  • Must be high energy, positive, a team player, and provide A+ customer service over very long days.
  • Enjoy working with youth age 5yrs – 18yrs.
  • Work well under pressure and in a fast paced environment while demonstrating flexibility.
  • Possess strong management skills, organizational skills, and communication skills.
  • Ability to stay calm and collected through various live event situations while also taking and implementing any feedback given by the Directors.
  • Must take pride in your work.
  • Will share hotel room with other staff members of the same sex.
  • A drivers license is an asset.
  • Aid in the take-down of each event and help pack the truck (1-2 hours). Ability to lift 40lbs.
 
 

Additional Info:

Only applicants who can commit to the full tour will be considered (approximately 55 hours per event).

Locations: Ontario and Quebec; Tour locations are listed under ‘Tour Dates’
Compensation: Contract work Compensation per event on lump-sum basis for a designated time.
Tour members will receive: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks on each show day
Accommodations are provided for at each Shine location
Staff will be transported from Toronto to each event location.

  2. March 28 – March 31: Chatham, Chatham Capitol Theatre
  3. April 4 - 7: Kingston #1, Ambassador Conference Resort
  4. April 11 - 14: Peterborough, ShowPlace Performance Centre
  5. April 25 - 28: Gatineau #2, Canadian Museum of History
  6. May 2 - 5: Gatineau #3, Palais des congres
  7. May 9 - 12: St. Catharines, First Ontario PAC
  8. May 23 – 26: Kingston #2, Ambassador Conference Resort
  9. NATIONALS: July 1st – 6th, Scotiabank Convention Centre
 
*Note: Staff will be driven to the event location around 1pm the day before it begins, and brought back to a designated drop off location late Sunday night or Monday.
*Dates may be added or subtracted based on registration.  Confirmation of final dates will be at the end of January/Early February.
