In the early days of WorkInCulture (WIC) – when we were known as Cultural Careers Council Ontario, WIC focused on Human Resource training for the cultural sector mainly because there were many reports during the early 2000 that suggested that HR practices in the cultural sector needed improvement.

For this reason, WIC and its partners worked on several projects and research papers to identify HR best practices and planning tools for the sector. In fact, over the years we developed a comprehensive list of guides that are compiled for you to peruse at your leisure in the Resource section of our website. For emerging leaders these resources can come in handy.

In addition to doing your own research, taking a few courses or workshops will better prepare you in a new administrative role, especially when the topic at hand changes with the times.  Many HR components are often updated particularly when there are legal considerations, specific areas for compliance, requirements from Canada Revenue Agency, and employment agreements and policies. There are even evolving trends in recruitment, performance management and employee engagement. Therefore, staying in the loop is vital when making sound decisions and planning as an emerging General Manager, Artistic Director, or even a Board Member.

Stay up-to-date with current HR practices by attending our upcoming Take the Lead workshop, led by Arts HR expert Jeanne LeSage.
