Job Description

Position Overview:
The Touring (TourCo) Stage Manager will provide technical and organizational support to the TourCo Director, Musical Director and Performers throughout rehearsal and performances. Most rehearsals and performances will take place at Second City Toronto (51 Mercer St) but frequent out of town travel should be expected.

This is a part-time position. The number of shows vary per week- one or two home- shows per week, with additional road shows as booked.The ideal candidate for this position is available to work evenings, weekends, and Monday afternoons. 10-30 hours per week.

This is a unionized Canadian Actors Equity Association 6 month Contract. Non members would be required to sign an Equity Engagement Contract upon accepting the role

Primary responsibilities include the following:
  • Running light and sound boards during performances
  • Printing & distributing scripts
  • Archiving newly generated scripts
  • Completes performance reports & distributes to production staff
  • Familiarity with CAEA Agreements
  • Reporting weekly attendance to The Associate Producer
  • Driving touring vehicles- rental vans, legally and safely
  • Managing company credit card for road expenses
  • Handling client payments
  • Leading on-site tech rehearsals for Touring productions
  • Securing and managing props
  • Familiarity with Touring tech riders
  • Liaising between the Associate Producer and Company regarding rehearsal schedule, including space needs.


The Ideal Candidate possess the following qualifications:
  • Graduate of a College or University level Technical Theatre program or equivalent work/ volunteer experience.
  • Must have a valid G driver’s license and proven track record of being a good driver
  • People skills; patience, compassion, listening.
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • The ability to work independently, solving problems creatively when necessary.
  • Experience working with technical systems and software within theatres including but not limited to lighting consoles and instruments, sound mixing equipment, QLab are considered an asset.
  • Up to date certification in ladder safety, lift ticket, and fall arrest is considered an asset

Start date: Late June 2018
Compensation: $162.20-$758 per week dependent on the number of performances per week.
