Job Description

The Centre is seeking a creative, dynamic, and talented individual to join the P.L.A.Y. Project youth theatre company artistic team.  Reporting to the Supervisor of Community Courses and Events, this position is responsible for the design, casting, and stage direction of the Centre’s P.L.A.Y. Project for ages 8-17. The Project offers youth the chance to develop their musical theatre, leadership, and performance skills by performing in one of our professional theatres.  The specific roles/responsibilities associated with this position are listed below.

Contract Session:     January 20th – March 17th (March Break inclusive)
Production:               Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka Jr.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate auditions of children and youth and cast accordingly for the production
  • Set rehearsal schedules in consideration of spaces and times provided with Vocal & Movement Director
  • In collaboration with the production team, direct, design, choreograph, and stage manage the selected productions
  • Participate in the implementation of studio health and safety practices
  • Coordinate youth volunteers for staging and production assistance
  • Work with the LAC’s lighting, sound and technical department for the run of the production
  • Work with groups up to 30 participants
  • Represent the Living Arts Centre with adept customer service
  • Work within the policies and procedures set out by the Centre


Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma, degree or equivalent in musical theatre, music, drama or related discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with youth musical theatre productions
  • Experience teaching in an educational setting
  • Experience directing a live performance
  • Experience working with children and youth
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated group management techniques
  • Proven customer service, problem solving and leadership skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Dance and vocal instruction experience an asset
