Led by Artistic Director Lawrence Cherney and Executive Director Ben Dietschi, Soundstreams is a Toronto-based music presenter that commissions, develops, and showcases the work of contemporary Canadian composers and their international counterparts. These innovative collaborations are performed by the finest artists from Canada and around the world, and are presented in an annual concert series, our monthly Salon 21 series at The Gardiner Museum, in national and international tours, and through a variety of education and outreach activities.



Job Description

Soundstreams seeks a part-time arts administration professional with aptitude for production management and execution in a performing arts environment. Reporting to the Director of Artistic Planning & Outreach, this individual fills an important role in our growing team by supporting the realization of performances in Toronto, and advancing our touring strategy.
 
Best suited for an organized self-starter with strong project management skills; this position offers the opportunity to work with an exciting array of artists and creative teams as Soundstreams undergoes a significant expansion in the dissemination of our work on a national and international scale.

Compensation: $19/hour
Hours: Part-time, 2 days (16 hours per week), with most work occurring at Soundstreams’ offices, along with occasional evening and weekend work (to both facilitate and attend events and rehearsals).

Purpose of Role:
 
The Production & Touring Coordinator plays a key role in realizing Soundstreams’ productions, and advancing our expanding touring strategy, locally, nationally, and internationally. S/he translates directives into the practical “on the ground” details required to realize our work. S/he also serves as the nexus for our touring portfolio, ensuring that the department has the appropriate tools and systems in place to advance the touring sales & planning pipeline.
 
The ideal candidate will have/be:
  • 1-2 years of experience in arts administration and/or a performing arts production environment
  • Completion of related post-secondary education preferred
  • A capable project manager with high attention to detail and the ability to steward multiple project timelines
  • A motivated self-starter who enjoys working in a collaborative, fast-paced, small office with a close-knit team of music lovers
  • Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to use independent judgement
  • Able to work with minimal supervision to negotiate and solicit results from varied contributors
  • A clear verbal and written communicator
  • Numeracy skills and accuracy in creating budgets

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES OVERVIEW
 
With assistance from, and reporting to, the Director of Artistic Planning & Outreach:
 
  • Liaise with all performance venue staff leading up to and during concerts: including stage diagrams for all concerts, rental of instruments, setup and communication with on-site technical staff the requirements of each show
  • Obtain all scores and parts from publishers and distribute to performers
  • Communicate with presenters to advance the touring planning pipeline
  • Liaise with local and touring venues
  • Communicate (and potentially develop) production and technical specifications for touring shows, internally and for all relevant external stakeholders
  • Assist with travel bookings and logistics for tours
  • Possible opportunity to travel as tour manager
