CBC Radio Network Talk is searching for a creative, organized, motivated Producer to run CBC Books’ special projects, including Canada Reads and TD Kids Book Corner. You’ll be responsible for the details that contribute to the success of these large-scale projects, from identifying leads and chasing, to building events, creating radio content and managing partners.

Working under the direction and supervision of the Executive Producer, you will bring a strong background in project, event and relationship management; excellent research and chase skills; a real passion for reading and writing; superior communication skills; experience in radio, digital and TV production; and meticulous attention to detail.

Function:

Plans, conceives, organizes, and/or develops the production and realization of radio and digital content and live events. Work will adhere to CBC journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices and the Producer is ultimately responsible for ensuring that this occurs. Nevertheless, there is wide latitude for initiative, independent judgement and creativity. There is a regular and ongoing requirement to co-ordinate the work of others.

Key Tasks:
  • Research and compile chase lists, chase and pre-interview guests.
  • Participate in the selection of the Canada Reads theme. Research and identify potential books for panellists.
  • Serve as the main contact at CBC for panellists, authors and publishers.
  • Manage project plan and timeline and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Working with the Associate Producer, solicit proposals for regional events and organize participation by panellists and/or authors, and provide local support as needed.
  • Conceive and develop editorial ideas and concepts for sound elements, including the book trailers.
  • Develop radio content schedule. Ensure studio sessions are booked, vet audio and distribute it to participating shows.
  • Act as a liaison between teams including TV, CBC Regions, Communications, Media Solutions, Syndicated Audio, etc.
  • Ensure freelance contributors and casual hires are scheduled and contracted as required, then assign, coordinate and supervise their work.
  • Ensure, in collaboration with Copyright Clearance Officers or others, the proper and accurate clearance of all material used.
  • Participate in editorial meetings and follow up on new elements as required.


Requirements:

We are looking for a candidate with the following: 
  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience.
  • Professional exposure to journalism and the technology of radio or television broadcasting.
  • Experience managing successful live productions with many partners, including a track record of delivering on time and on budget.
  • Talent in all aspects of story production including conducting pre-interviews, research, fact checking, sound mixing and editing and ensuring stories meet CBC's Journalistic Standards and Procedures.
  • Ability to communicate well and warmly, both in writing and in person.
  • Expert knowledge of Canadian books and authors.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage confidential information.
  • Proven experience with cross-platform and multi-media work including Radio, TV and digital.
  • Above average computer skills, ideally with experience using Google systems, Dalet, Polopoly and other CBC platforms.
  • Examples of positive experiences in talent management will be considered an asset.
  • Good judgement and critical-thinking skills, even in a high-pressure environment working with tight deadlines.
