Organization Description

On October 6th, 2016, the Government of Canada signed the contract for Canada to be the Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2020. CANADA FBM2020 was then established in cooperation with the Association of Canadian Publishers (ACP) and l’Association nationale des éditeurs de livres (ANEL) to manage, in French and in English, the Canadian book publishing industry’s role/involvement in the Canada as Guest of Honour (GoH) initiative at the 2020 Frankfurt Book Fair.
CANADA FBM2020 receives its funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage, and has strategic oversight from the Frankfurt 2020 Steering Committee (comprised of members from the Department of Canadian Heritage, the Canada Council for the Arts and Global Affairs Canada, as well as CANADA FBM2020).
As a not-for-profit association, CANADA FBM2020 receives input from its independent board of directors and will work with key government and industry partners to deliver major components of the GoH program.
The Canadian publishing industry extends across Canada and comprises publishers of all different sizes and genres. CANADA FBM2020 is a bilingual entity and represents English, French and Indigenous publishers from across Canada.

Job Description

CANADA FBM2020 Operations Manager
Location: Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa

We are looking for an energetic, hard-working, dedicated, and above all well-organized individual who has experience working for a not-for-profit organization, or small business.
The Operations Manager position is a full time 40-hour per week position. CANADA FBM2020 is an equal opportunity employer that offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits.
Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Operations Manager will oversee the every-day administrative operations of the CANADA FBM2020 entity.
As the Operations Manager you will:
  • monitor and report on the entity’s operational budget and provide support to the Manager of Accounting;
  • provide support in developing and managing budgets for various projects and activities;
  • oversee the entity’s expenses, and handle invoicing, billing and the disbursement of cheques;
  • serve as primary liaison to funding bodies, draft grant applications and submit interim and final reports;
  • manage, administer and file all administrative records (legal filings, accounting/audits, governmental etc);
  • under the direction of the Executive Director, draft and negotiate contracts and RFPs for all activities (consultants/freelance work, space rental, special projects, etc) and manage associated financials;
  • organize, coordinate and run logistics for CANADA FBM2020’s Board of Directors’ meetings and special committees’ meetings;
  • prepare correspondence, minutes and reports for all Board of Directors’ and special committees’ meetings;
  • undertake, from time to time, special assignments as required and represent CANADA FBM2020 or its Executive Director, as required.


  • strong financial management experience;
  • experience developing and managing budgets;
  • experience working for a not-for-profit organization or small business;
  • experience negotiating, drafting and reviewing contracts;
  • experience writing government funding proposals, interim and final reports;
  • strong planning, and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects at once;
  • excellent communication skills both verbal and written;
  • ability to work with multiple stakeholders;
  • bilingual/strong written and oral competencies in French and English;
  • excels at operating in a fast-paced environment;
  • ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
  • ability to work with colleagues in different locations across the country;
  • excellent computer skills and proficient in excel, word, outlook, and access
  • knowledge of the Canadian book publishing industry in both English and French sectors will be considered an asset but is not a requirement.

Additional Info:

This position can be based in Toronto, Ottawa, or Montreal.
The Executive Director works out of Toronto. Some domestic travel may be required.
