Shine Dance Competitions
Shine Dance Competitions continues to present a competition that is not simply a place where dancers compete, but a place where they have fun and build memories of their competitive experience. With its inception in 2002, Shine has since grown to host eight annual competitions and service over 4,000 competitive dancers each season. Shine also focuses on giving back to the community and runs a charity food drive at every competition and is an approved community partner and fundraiser for the Hospital for Sick Children. Shine Dance Competitions takes great pride in running a competition with a commitment to excellence.

Job Description

*Set-up mics, sound board, CD Js, Laptop, microphones, tap mics, etc.
*Perform sound checks for music and mics before the competition begins and at the beginning of each day. 
*Work with In-house sound technicians to create optimal sound quality at each venue
*A+ customer service with Studios regarding their music requests.
*Remain extremely organized and anticipate any missing music prior to the performance
*Tackle any technical issues that may arise while still managing sound for ongoing performances
*Play each performance’s music (new performance every 3min, 150-200 performances a day)
*Music played from Virtual DJ (on laptop); CD Js; Phones
*Organize and play hype music for the Awards ceremonies (5 per day)
*Watch all performances while prepping the next song
*Manage all music related questions (volume, tempo, cues, etc.).
*Constant correspondence with the MC regarding cues for each performance. Relay to other staff members when applicable.
*Ensure CDs/USBs are organized and prepared for the session and replaced in the correct studio’s binder once used.
*Stay calm and collected through various live event situations while also taking and implementing any feedback given by the Directors.
*Work well and be kind to all Shine Staff to maintain a friendly tour environment
*Nationals July event: aid with the various activities planned for the dancers (beach party, Workshops, Final Banquet). *when applicable
*Must be able to remain focused, collected and energetic over long hours (6:00am – 11pm)
*Remain flexible if asked to perform other responsibilities.
*Aid in the take-down of each event and help pack the truck involving lifting boxes (1-2 hours). Ability to lift 40lbs.


*Looking for people with passion, attention to detail, and a drive beyond the job they need to do
*Previous experience managing sound for events
*Must be able to work with sound board, Pioneer CD J 200, and Laptop simultaneously
*Enough technical knowledge to trouble shoot any sound issues
*Must be high energy, positive, a team player, and customer service oriented
*Work well under pressure and in a fast paced environment while demonstrating flexibility with situations encountered in live events.
*Attention to detail while working long days is a must
*Possess strong management skills, organizational skills, and communication skills
*Must be able to multi-task and work independently while communicating with the other staff members
*Ability to stay calm and collected through various live event situations while also taking and implementing any feedback given by the Directors
*Must take pride in your work
*Will share hotel room with other staff members of the same sex
*A driver’s license is an asset

Tour members will receive: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Snacks on each show day
Accommodations are provided for at each Shine location
Staff will be transported from Toronto to each event location.

May 3 - 6: Gatineau #3, Palais des congres
May 10 - 13: St. Catharines, First Ontario PAC
May 24 – 27: London, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London 

*Note: Staff will be driven to the event location around 1pm the day before it begins, and brought back to a designated drop off location late Sunday night or Monday.
*Dates may be added or subtracted based on registration.  Confirmation of final dates will be at the end of January/Early February.
