Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary School
Secondary School in Mississauga, presenting its spring musical
Gordon Graydon Memorial Secondary School (Mississauga, ON) is looking for a Music Director for its spring production of Footloose. Rehearsals will begin in November, with voice rehearsals being once-twice a week (days are flexible). Typically, rehearsals run from 2:45-5:30. The performances will be on May 14, 15 and 16, 2014.
Musicals at Graydon are a unique experience because many of the students are dipping their toes in to the world of Music Theatre for the first time. Many of the cast will have never sung or danced before, and part of the process will be teaching them the fundamentals of music as you teach them the show. In addition, we would like the MD to approach the process from the standpoint of building their appreciation and excitement for the arts, and inspiring them to want to learn more.
Footloose will be done with canned music, so the MD's responsibilities will be to develop the voice work in the show. Unfortunately, we do not have a pianist, so the MD will need to be strong in their ability to play piano and sight read. The environment is very collaborative and positive, and the students are always a treat to work with (past shows have included West Side Story, RENT, Seussical, Blood Brothers, etc.).
We are excited to welcome a new Music Director to the Theatre Graydon family!
-Experience working with young performers (Grade 9-12) is an asset
-Piano playing skills and sight reading skills are a must
-Ability to make judgement calls when preparing the voice work (ex. should certain harmonies become one melody, etc.)
-Desire to not just teach the show, but build the students' appreciation of music and performance
Pay will be $60.00/rehearsal.
