For one weekend each January and September, the cities of Toronto and Vancouver are filled with industry superstars, cutting-edge emerging names, design-savvy consumers and top media outlets. And for 3.5 action-packed days, the Interior Design Show shapes the design world for the year to come. IDS is more than just a fair. It is the total design experience.

Job Description

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic, creative team with an established brand. 

You’ll work cross-functionally with the team, internal and external stakeholders to champion the IDS brand and play a key role in growing developing creative content, marketing strategies to push the brand forward. the position involves KPI tracking and analysis and using data-driven insights to impact process and performance optimization. 

We are looking for a marketing and communications coordinator who is an innovative thinker who can help propel our marketing and social media strategy forward, staying ahead of industry trends.

•    Work with Show Director on creative ideas, annual themes, directions and business objectives. Evaluate new opportunities to enhance show experience while growing and retaining current show audience
•    Champion the IDS brand and develop strategies to grow the brand on a national and international level throughout the year
•    Explore new directions, new audiences, and wider demographics

Partnerships & Sponsorships 
•    Work with Show Director to attract and to develop new media partnerships 
•    Assist with creative sponsorship activation ideas to enhance show experiences (working with external vendors and agencies when applicable)


•    Assess and create a strategic communications plan for all audiences (exhibitors/ sponsors/ consumers/stakeholders)
•  Coordinate the design, development & maintenance of websites including content, site, architecture, UX and design parameters.
•   Manage and implement email marketing strategy including design, coding, and deployment while optimized across all browser platforms.
•  Develop and maintain social media channels including the creation of a content calendar, communication strategy, and analysis of engagement.

Advertising and Marketing Collateral 

•    Develop advertising schedule and work with show director to oversee and manage advertising budget
•    Negotiate media partnerships, advertising rates, and ads placement
•    Work with Show Director to create ads copy, headlines, content and direct graphic designer on final ads design
•    Coordinate production, printing, and distribution of all collateral materials including show catalog

PR/Media Relations

•    Provide information, content and visual materials to be developed for media-savvy stories
•    Oversee press kit content and distribution lists 
•    Asses networking and identification of cross-promotional opportunities and leveraged buys amongst Informa events
•    Work with PR team to leverage and build relationships with influencers


To succeed in this role, you

•    Possess a relevant degree, ideally with a focus on Marketing or Communications
•    Have 3-5 years of related marketing experience
•    Possess dynamic writing skills; ability to tailor messaging to varied audiences
•    Have experience working in the arts/design/cultural institutions or have a strong personal interest in these industries

Digital Skills
•    Strong computer skills including all MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PPT)
•    Familiarity with basic CMS environments, good understanding of Eloqua, AEM, HTML and CSS, Adobe products, Mobile Marketing, email marketing, Hosting/Analytics, SEO. 
•    Some graphic design and basic video editing skills are preferred
•    Experience using email marketing software/programs and best practices
•    In tune with the latest innovations and methods of digital marketing
•    Strong understanding of digital marketing, including trends, strategies, platform capabilities and metrics/analytics
•    Open to working flexible hours with ability to respond to social messages on weekends and in the evenings

•    Superior communication skills; both written and oral
•    Excellent problem solving skills and resourcefulness, possessing an innate curiosity and willingness to evolve
•    Present in a professional and positive manner, with a “can do” attitude
•    Listen and communicate clearly to manage customer expectations and elevate level of customer service
•    Ask questions and probe effectively to clarify project asks and understand business needs
•    Able to flex communication style to work with varying levels of seniority, both within and outside of the organization
•    Possess a desire to keep up with evolving marketing trends through external courses and personal learning
