Hailed by critics and audiences alike as one of Canada’s finest oratorio choirs, Pax Christi Chorale delivers stirring performances of choral masterworks with polish and conviction. Under the leadership of Artistic Director David Bowser we aspire to build on our strengths and accomplishments to achieve new levels of artistic excellence.

Our performance season includes a 3-concert subscription series, annual outreach concert, and several community engagements. We regularly produce audio and video recordings, have an active education program for students and young professionals, and embarked on our first international tour in 2016.

Pax Christi Chorale champions great choral music among a diverse community. We have an inclusive philosophy and welcome audience members, choristers, and volunteers from all backgrounds and walks of life.
 

Job Description

Profile Summary
Pax Christi Chorale is seeking a motivated, energetic, and experienced Executive Director to lead our administrative activities and support our mission to inspire, inform, and educate audiences through choral music performance, expertise and outreach activities.

Our new ED will be experienced in diverse areas of arts administration, including marketing, production and event management, finance, fundraising, grant writing, and volunteer engagement. The ideal candidate has:

  • The ability to manage multiple tasks, working independently and as part of a team

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities
PUBLICITY AND MARKETING
  • Develop the annual marketing plan, including strategy, budget and timelines
  • With the Marketing and Audience Development Committees, develop and implement all publicity and marketing campaigns
  • Research marketing opportunities 
  • Maintain media contact lists and audience database 
  • Prepare and distribute media releases and information kits
  • Coordinate design, production and distribute marketing materials 
  • Book and coordinate advertising space
  • Arrange and coordinate reciprocal advertising with other arts organizations. 
  • Oversee maintenance of website and social media site(s) 

REHEARSALS, CONCERTS AND EVENTS
  • Lead the administrative planning and implementation of artistic activities 
  • Develop annual calendar with Artistic Director 
  • Provide schedules to rehearsal, concert, and event venues 
  • Maintain ongoing communications with choristers and other event stakeholders 
  • Manage contracts and relationships with guest artists and venues 
  • Coordinate development of concert programmes, with volunteers, graphic artist and printer 
  • Manage front of house activities; recruit, coordinate and train volunteers 
  • With Production Manager, ensure concert production elements are tracking on schedule and in accordance with budget. 
  • Manage the commercial and archival recording process 
  • Provide first point of contact for the public; address any concerns or questions 

3. DEVELOPMENT AND FUNDRAISING
Working with the Fundraising Committee:
  • Develop and implement annual revenue-generating plan
  • Research funding sources including foundations, corporations, government opportunities and interested individuals; recommend priorities, strategies and timing 
  • Prepare proposals, applications and presentations; present as appropriate
  • Lead the development of fundraising campaigns; plan volunteer needs, recruit and coordinate as necessary 
  • Lead the grant-writing process, and write applications with Artistic Director 

4. STRATEGIC PLANNING 
  • Assist with development of long term and strategic plans of the Chorale 
  • Plan and implement new initiates as per the strategic plan. 

5. AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT 
  • Plan and implement audience development opportunities 
  • Maintain and build audience database 

6. GENERAL ADMINISTRATION
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization 
  • Attend meetings of Board, report on administrative activities; provide support to Board members as appropriate. 
  • Attend rehearsals of choir as necessary to ensure regular contact with singers and committee members. 
  • Assist with special projects, such as tour arrangements, workshops, competitions, and other new initiatives. 
  • Maintain effective, ongoing communication with choir members 
  • With the Choir President, plan volunteer needs for events, recruit and coordinate volunteers and train as required; develop ongoing volunteer recognition 

Requirements
  • Professional experience in arts administration or other senior administrative roles
  • Musical background preferred 
  • Preferably an undergraduate degree or equivalent
