Ontario Culture Days
Ontario Culture Days fosters awareness, engagement and support of a diverse artistic and cultural community that is lived, created, and expressed by all Ontarians regardless of age, ability, culture, discipline, ethnicity, language, or income.
Since 2010, Ontario Culture Days has featured over 10,800 free arts and cultural heritage activities in all disciplines in Ontario as a part of the national Culture Days celebration, the largest public participation campaign undertaken by the Canadian arts and cultural community. Beginning the last Friday of September, the annual Culture Days weekend features hand's-on, behind-the-scenes, community-engaged activities inviting the public to contribute to arts and culture across Canada.
Contributing $44.5 million to Ontario’s tourism economy since 2010 ($8.0 million in 2016), each year Ontario Culture Days draws 505,000 attendees, and 135,000 artists, workers and volunteers in 165+ cities and towns across the province. Generating 61.4 million marketing impressions and 62 million media impressions in 2016, Ontario Culture Days’ contributions to the public profile and awareness of arts and culture across Ontario are unprecedented.
Ontario Culture Days’ other programming includes:
Youth Arts Ambassadors Program / YAAP (2016-present) is an annual program empowering the next generation of multidisciplinary, community-engaged artists in Ontario. Each year, YAAP commissions five New Generation artists (18-30 years) to create and produce new community arts projects for Culture Days. Each of the artists also receive mentoring and networking opportunities across the province as Ontario Culture Days Ambassadors, including Indigenous and Francophone artists.
Culture Days @ the Library (2011-present) is a partnership between Ontario Culture Days, Neighbourhood Arts Network, and Toronto Public Library hosting free Culture Days activities at Toronto-area libraries. In 2016, the program extended to libraries across Ontario.
Free Learning Resources (2010-present) including workshops, symposiums, webinars, and online resource libraries to help artists and the public effectively participate in Culture Days.
