Job Description

Artscape is currently seeking a part-time Custodian to join our custodial team at Daniels Spectrum. The custodian maintains professional, respectful and positive relationships with tenants, colleagues, staff and members of the public; while contributing to a warm, welcoming and attractive environment.

“Rooted in Regent Park, Open to the World,” Daniels Spectrum is home to many outstanding arts-based and community-focused organizations that make Daniels Spectrum a special place to work, play, and study and get creative. The facility’s event, performance and exhibition spaces include Ada Slaight Hall, the Artscape Lounge on the main floor, a network of hallway galleries and the Courtyard. Each year, Daniels Spectrum hosts tens of thousands of visitors and hundreds of arts and cultural events.
Reporting to the Superintendent and Manager-Security & Custodial Services, with support and instruction from the lead custodian.

Strong experience in commercial cleaning with an emphasis on the care and cleaning of active event spaces would be an asset. Availability on weekends and for a midnight to 8AM shift is a must.

Responsibilities
Providing cleaning services such as; mopping, dusting, carpet cleaning and vacuuming, daily glass and window cleaning of the general common areas
Washing the interior and exterior windows in the Artscape lounge as required
Pre and post events cleaning of the Ada Slaight Hall (ASH), the green room and both dressing rooms
Garbage collection and removal, both in the interior general common areas and the outdoor perimeter of the complex
Artscape office and prayer room cleaning twice weekly; dusting, vacuuming, wipe the door glass. When requested clean the interior and exterior of the refrigerator and microwave oven in the office
Cleaning and restocking all washrooms, both the first floor common area washrooms and the secured washrooms on the second floor.
Perimeter cleaning, trash pick up and outdoor garbage bins emptied as required
Identifying and notifying the Superintendent of repairs, opportunities and challenges
Assisting other Artscape staff, as requested (e.g. rolling out garbage pins, moving tables, etc.)

Qualifications
Experience
3-5 years of commercial cleaning experience, with an emphasis on event venues
Use of basic methods of communication such as text and email
Certification or the ability to be certified in WHMIS 2015
Strong written and oral communication in English
The ability to work flexible hours and days
