FACTOR
As a private non-profit organization, FACTOR is dedicated to providing assistance toward the growth and development of the Canadian music industry. The foundation administers contributions from private radio broadcasters as well as two components of the Department of Canadian Heritage's Canada Music Fund. FACTOR has been managing federal funds since the inception of the Sound Recording Development Program in 1986 (now known as the Canada Music Fund).

Support is provided to Canadian recording artists, songwriters, managers, labels, publishers, event producers and distributors through various programs. Whether an artist is looking to record a demo, full length sound recording, market and promote an already existing album or showcase and tour domestically and internationally, funding is available. FACTOR supports many facets of the infrastructure which must be in place in order for artists and music entrepreneurs to progress into the international arena.

Job Description

FACTOR is a private, non-profit organization that distributes grants to the Canadian independent music industry. We are committed to creating a diverse workplace and to providing a work environment that supports both personal and professional growth.
 
Located in downtown Toronto, FACTOR is seeking a part-time COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT, 20 hours per week, with additional hours during peak periods. The Communications Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support to the Communications and Stakeholder Relations Officer (CSRO) across a variety of tasks related to both external and internal communications. The right candidate for this position has excellent written and oral communication skills, is highly organized, outgoing and discreet. Can work with minimal supervision and enjoys contributing to the team. Responsibilities include:
 
  • Creating, scheduling and managing content for the various FACTOR social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).
  • Managing the monthly newsletter – gathering content, communicating program and policy updates, checking database for recent FACTOR funded releases.
  • Managing the schedule for booked meetings at various events across the country through Eventbrite, confirming attendees, checking FACTOR database for attendee information.
  • Providing assistance to the CSRO with other day to day tasks, as well as various duties surrounding larger projects such as: year-end wrap up video, Annual Report, internal document updates.


Requirements:

To qualify for this position you must have:
 
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a communications/social media role
  • Excellent communication skills, both written (spelling and grammar) and verbal
  • Strong computer skills, especially Windows and MS Office suite
  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian music industry
  • Post-secondary education
 
Additional assets can include:
  • Music industry, non-governmental organization, or arts funding experience
  • A second language
  • Database or CRM experience, especially Microsoft Dynamics 365
  • Wordpress, graphic design (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
