Job Description

Key activities:
The Communication Officer is primarily responsible for promoting productions, products and initiatives for the NAC Orchestra through the development and implementation of strategic public relations plans designed to enhance local, national and international exposure and maximize revenues. He or she is responsible for producing some of the communications materials and the creation of dynamic web content and web site updates. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Develop, implement and monitor public relations plans for NAC artistic disciplines, artists, artistic directors, performances, productions, special events, products and promotions; • Participate as part of the Marketing department to help formulate and establish specific and overall strategies for communications and business development; • Endeavour to increase exposure of the assigned NAC discipline program and/or NAC product or initiative and grow revenues; • Develop compelling story angles in line with the vision of the artistic direction; • Writing persuasive press releases, letters, video scripts and other communications; • Cultivate relationships with key arts and culture journalists; • Pitch stories to both national and local journalists to achieve the highest visibility of the discipline in print, broadcast and on-line media; • Manage communications projects and budgets ; • Play a key role in audience development initiatives; • Cultivate relationships with the public and speak publicly; • Increase the discipline’s impact in digital media including social media; • Help in the development and implementation of the NAC’s strategic plan.


• University degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field and a minimum of (3) years of relevant experience;
• Superior language skills; you must possess the ability to communicate verbally (public speaking, public and media relations) and in writing (drafting, editing) in both official languages;
• Ability to draft and conceptualize multiple methods of communication (house programs, press releases, video scripts, correspondence, etc.);
• Possess strong attention to detail in your own work;
• Strong knowledge of the performing arts in general;
• Direct experience in working with journalists and the media, both regionally and nationally;
• Exceptional knowledge of social media tactics (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram);
• Ability to work in a team;
• Ability to take on a leadership role;
• Demonstrated initiative and sound judgement;
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure while managing tight deadlines;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and capacity to manage the demands of multiple stakeholders;
• Strong project management skills;
• Creative and analytical thinking;
• Experience managing budgets;
• Proficiency in using MS Word, Powerpoint and Excel • Ability to communicate written and orally in both official languages.
