Founded in 1968 by Ruby Mercer and Lloyd Bradshaw as the Canadian Children's Opera Chorus, the CCOC is unique in Canada as the only permanent children's opera chorus which develops and produces new operas for children.

Job Description


  • Available to attend regularly scheduled rehearsals.  Regularly scheduled rehearsals include Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons/evenings and some Saturdays
  • Supervises set-up and tear-down of rehearsal and concert venues by volunteers and choristers
  • Implements safe arrival and departure program for choristers
  • Assists artistic staff in the management of the rehearsal and performance environment as necessary, including supervision of choristers, on-site communication with parents, limiting access to unauthorized adults, and communicating with venue staff
  • Ensures that adequate music is available at all rehearsals and performances
  • Assists in creating, publishing, distributing and communicating calendars, schedules, memos, and procedures, and such to choristers, families, staff and board members
  • Manages and fills orders for chorus materials, including tickets to some events, media recordings, bags, uniform pieces.  Involved in most steps of the process, including inventory management, administration and customer service.
  • Attends staff meetings as required
  • Assists in maintaining membership contact lists
  • Maintains current attendance records
  • Applies first aid as necessary
  • Attends extra rehearsals, performances, camps and special events as necessary and in consultation with the Managing Director


  • Assists with the transportation, care and storage of props, costume pieces,  set pieces and other production items
  • Assists in managing the backstage area at all dress rehearsals and performances when present
  • Assists production team in creating and communicating the production schedule to all choristers, families, and staff

Public Relations/Marketing

  • Monitors and contributes to the CCOC’s social media presence, including actively seeking opportunities to promote CCOC through these platforms
  • Actively involved with all aspects of recruiting, including organizing and running recruiting visits, distributing marketing materials, speaking to prospective chorister families, encouraging current members to recruit friends, etc.


  • With the volunteer coordinator, identify, coordinate and utilize volunteer help in all aspects of the job


  • Familiarity with current technology, including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Familiarity with the effective use of popular social media applications
  • Strong verbal and written skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and maintain composure under pressure
  • Strong service orientation to chorus members, families and external contacts
  • St John’s Ambulance Standard First Aid or equivalent required
  • Applicants must be able to read music.
  • Experience in a choir, orchestra or band is beneficial

Additional Info:

Subject to evaluation and interest, the position may be renewed for a second year.
