Dukes of Harmony
The Dukes of Harmony is one of the GTA’s longest-existing barbershop choruses. Started in 1954, the Dukes have had a proud tradition of excellence in competing at the Ontario and international level as well as providing some of the best shows around. The Dukes have a rich history including two international gold medals (Canada's first!). The Chorus performs publicly throughout the year, usually in the evenings or on weekends. Engagements include barbershop shows, commercial bookings and community events. The Dukes are the Scarborough Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, an international organization of Male Singers, Quartets, and Choruses, dedicated to the Barbershop style of music.

Job Description

The candidate will fill a key role in rehearsal and development of the chorus assisting with weekly rehearsals: running sectionals, tutti rehearsals, floating between sections as a singer, and performances: conducting at sing-outs, concerts, and contests.
The candidate will be integral in recruitment, development, concert programming, and repertoire selection along with the artistic director and the board.
The candidate will embrace the Barbershop style and deepen his/her knowledge in this art form as well as learn to work within the Barbershop Harmony Society.
The candidate will work with the artistic director on music preparation and rehearsal planning in an effort to bring their combined talents to the chorus.


Required Skills
-Experience conducting and managing community and/or educational choral programs.
-Solid musicianship and clear conducting gesture
-Seasoned rehearsal pedagogy with experience in music education 
Preferred Skills
-Knowledge or experience in the Barbershop style of choral music
-Training and experience in vocal health and development either in study or as a voice/choral teacher
-A degree in choral music with a focus in education
-Keyboard skills at a level to play parts or reduce TTBB choral scores
