The Growing Earned Revenue Mentoring or GERM Program is a pilot project that was launched in May 2017 to match 20 arts and heritage organizations across Ontario with a professional experienced in identifying and expanding earned revenue opportunities.

The GERM helped to connect experts with professionals looking for mentorship on a range of earned revenue topics, such as membership, audience growth, space rentals, and product development.
The mentoring period for the GERM mentees and their mentors ran from June 1, 2017 to May 31, 2018. At the GERM closing event we asked some participants to share about their experience; watch here.

WorkInCulture recognizes that nonprofit arts and heritage organizations are facing the challenges of reduced financial resources and are inspired to explore untapped resources and earned revenue opportunities.

Whatever the motivation, earned revenue activities have the potential to provide opportunities for experimentation, innovation, greater independence and long-term sustainability, and to further enhance the organization’s mission and impact.
